A tough day at the office for the Lions
A tough day at the office for the Lions, despite a strong start and dominating territory in the first 20. Rushed decision making and I’ll discipline in the final third proving costly, after fly half Jack Soper pushed a penalty attempt wide from halfway, Christchurch took advantage of a strong scrum to score under the sticks and open the scoring. This was followed swiftly by a another score for the hosts, a big carry from the opposition number 8 splintering the Chineham defence. An improved spell followed, but the half finished with another try for Christchurch, a goal line drop out sent long by Chineham l, but a jinking kick return resulted in another score out wide.
The second half started with a strong defensive set from the Lions, and the next score was a penalty slotted by the Christchurch fly half after more I’ll discipline. Chineham hit back and got on the scoreboard next, a rumbling driving maul finished off by Tom Scoble, Soper adding the extras. Christchurch put the game to bed from the restart, sloppy work around the breakdown resulting in a penalty try being awarded and a yellow for Chineham fullback Henry Dunne.
Chineham rallied with 14, finishing the game on top, substitute Matt Lingham unfortunate to be denied by an excellent tackle within reach of the whitewash.
The boys fought hard against their table topping opponents and look forward to a return to HQ next week to take on @petersfieldrfc.
All the best to @christchurchrugby for the rest of the season!
