Chineham RFC

Chineham 24 - Southampton 45

An Improved Performance

An improved performance in boggy conditions came up short for the Lions yesterday.

A strong start down the Chineham slope allowed @scoble7 to launch himself over the line followed by a strong scrum from Lion’s pack.

Southampton hit back out wide to level the scores before a break through the middle from fly half Jack Soper was quickly recycled for Scoble to cross the whitewash for a second time, converted by Matt Lingham.

Southampton hit back with two quick scores to see out the half at 19-12 to the visitors. A to-and-fro second half followed, with both teams breaking the line and Sam Athroll scoring untouched after a clever breakaway from a rolling maul.

When Soper slid over from a blindside move off of another strong Chineham scrum, there was just a seven-point margin heading into the final ten minutes.

Unfortunately, in trying to chase the game-leveling score, an intercept tries to put the game to bed for Southampton.

A much-improved performance from Chineham, who were hamstrung by a number of injuries leading to players across the park playing out of position.
