Chineham RFC

Gosport & Fareham 44-29 Chineham

Defeat in Wheaton’s first game in charge at a wet and windy Gosport yesterday.

A poor first half, showing the effects of a month without a fixture, led to a 31-0 deficit at half time. Battling against the wind made it difficult for the Lions to clear their lines, and Gosport capitalised, crossing 6 times in the first period.

Chineham kicked off the second half with a 40 yard driving maul finished off by hooker Josh Pickett and this seemed to kick Chineham into gear. The Lions played territory well, and began to assert their dominance at set piece. Fly half Adam Lincoln was next to cross, after another dominant Chineham scrum stormed to within a yard or two of the line. Next up was Ben Goodman, flying over after a fantastic chase turned a speculative kick into a try scoring one!

The bonus point was wrapped up soon after, with Matt Lingham flying through to dot down under the posts, and scoring was brought to an end by Jack Soper collecting a chip and chase to slide over.

Congratulations to Jacob Cardwell and Malachi Burton for strong showings on their Chineham debuts!🦁🦁

A much improved second half performance and a lot to work on in training over the coming weeks. We are actively seeking a friendly to fill (another) bye week next week before we take on neighbours Hook & Odiham on the 4th November.

Training Tuesday and Thursday at 6:45 at Basingstoke Sport and Social Club (May’s Bounty), we are always in the look out for new or returning players, with no prior experience required!
